Today the Club is very sad to mark the passing of one of our very own, Steve Saunders.
Steve has been fighting illness on a number of fronts for many months now.
There are a few people who embody the spirit of the Bemsee family and Steve was very much one of those. An example of the whole family being involved in the sport through the Club – his wife and son also active on the volunteer’s side.
In the early 80’s, Steve started as a Marshal working with the likes of our current President, Ted McDonald. They deployed to any corner at any circuit and in those days the smell of bacon and sausages drifting across the circuit was a regular feature as they made their own breakfast, these were pre-Kentagon days when Marshal breakfasts were but a dream.
Most of you will remember Steve more recently as the driver of Recovery One a job he shared with son Big Dave and more latterly, Kev Higerty. Always total commitment to the cause recovering bikes, rain or shine. Even when he became ill it was tough to stop him coming to meetings to drive the van.
He was hugely supportive of the Club and his family and leaves his son Dave, daughter Charlotte and wife Angela in pieces. There was never a prouder father watching his son circulate on his 600 that had been lovingly painted to look like a Bemsee bike.
The Club is terribly saddened at his loss, arrangements will be advised in due course.
