Sadly, we have lost a long standing member of our 'Bemsee family' this week. Ron Humphries.
Ron started Marshalling through the Triumph Owners Club in the late 1950s/early 60s. In those days, a group of their members attended many different bike meetings as a team, often working together on corner. Eventually Ron gravitated towards dedicating his Marshalling time to Bemsee meetings.
Over the years he went from Marshal to 'Corner Commander' and eventually to Chief Marshal.
As a Chief Marshal he was FIERCELY protective of 'his' Marshals and woe betide anyone that messed with them. He knew they played a vital role in the running of the meeting and it was not unusual for him to give the Clerks grief over cut down lunch breaks, for example.
Ron was fondly known as 'Uncle Ron' to the Marshals. He was immensely loyal to both the Club and 'his' Marshals and his need to get it 'right' meant that if someone attempted to throw an unintended spanner in the works, he would fire on all cylinders, leaving nobody in any doubt as to the fact that he cared a great deal.
Ron leaves behind his son Andy and daughter Alison. Andy worked alongside Ron, helping him with his Admin where he could and was a Marshal and IO himself for many years. Our heartfelt condolences go out to his family and friends.
Ron will be fondly remembered, not only for his unquestionable loyalty to the Club and the support of 'his' Marshals, enabling them to do their job of protecting our Racers, but also for the support he gave to his TWO successive Chief Marshals, with a bit of wit thrown in for good measure.
Our Club, Bemsee, is all the richer, for the time and influence of Uncle Ron. He will always be fondly remembered by the Bemsee Marshals and others who worked with him behind the scenes.
RIP Uncle Ron.
