Information: I have been riding bikes since I was very young, starting with scooters on farmland, then when I passed my test I rode various bikes on the road, (Name a bike, and I’ve either owned it or ridden it!) I still own a Aprillia RSVR and KMX 125, but admit I’m a ‘fair weather biker’ and they only come out for a spin on a sunny day or to be polished!

In 1980 I became a member of Bemsee and for a couple of years raced 250 production, but after 9 crashes in one year, and to save my wife Sue’s sanity I thought I would try something a little less ‘racey!’, so moved onto a 250 single Rotax in a Hejira Frame, this then led onto Racing Hejira TZ350 and 750 Ducati F2... Sue had got used to my racing hobby by then!!

In 1987 I was diagnosed with Cancer, so feeling like S**T I decided I needed to give up racing and concentrate on getting well and spend time with my 2 young daughters. Career and Family in later years took over, The brood had grown to 4 daughters by then, not easy for any bloke to find time for bikes when you have a houseful of 5 females!

In 2008 at the grand age of 50 years old, I thought it was time to squeeze into a set of racing leathers and take to the track again, thankfully with the support of my ‘girls’, the continuing patience of my wife and a really generous sponsor I have been able to enter the MZ Class, once again in good old Bemsee.

I entered 24 races last year, fell off twice at Snetterton (never been my favourite circuit) but had no mechanical DNFs!

As the rider’s rep for the MZ Class as well as a racer, I’m looking forward to being back in the paddock this year, with my Team mates, Sponsors and family, including my grandchildren!!

A racers life can begin at 50!!!
